I’ve been putting off writing this blog post for a while, but I have to let you know that we’re moving to Georgia after Christmas. As many of you know, my wonderful husband Mike is active-duty military. We’ve had the amazing opportunity to live in Hopkinsville, KY since 2009. He first went through the ROTC program at Austin Peay and then got stationed at Fort Campbell the last four years. This has allowed us to put down roots and make this community our home.
I have learned and grown so much here–making this a tough place to leave! Hopkinsville is where we bought our first home. It was a fixer upper house with great “bones.” Every. Single. Room. had wallpaper which we took down and repainted. We’ve put lots of sweat equity into this place to make it one we’re proud of and will miss dearly.
This is the place we had our children. Morris was born two weeks after we moved in and I can’t imagine life here without thinking about being a mom. Two years later we welcomed our youngest, Olivia. Being their mom has become one of my greatest joys in life! Hopkinsville will always remind me of their precious first years.
God also placed us in just the right church, at just the right time, for us to learn and encourage others. I’m going to miss my Edgewood Baptist friends dearly!
And this is where, with a lot of encouragement from my friend Shea, I decided to open my own photography business. One of my dreams was to own my own business and I’ve gotten to do it over the last seven years. I didn’t know it at the time, but the first few years the income helped feed our family. We didn’t know Mike was going to quit his job and go to school full-time when we first moved here. But the business was already running and helped us to afford that option. It has been an amazing adventure to say the least! I’ve met so many amazing clients who’ve turned into friends. And been able to be a part of their most special days by capturing weddings, newborn sessions, and milestones.
After Christmas we’ll be stationed at Fort Gordon, GA for seven months while Mike attends Captain Career Course. While we’re there, we’ll find out where we headed for the next 2-3 years. We’ve been told it won’t be back here, at least not immediately.
In the meantime, I’ve taken a job through MadSkills. An amazing military spouse hiring company. Some of you have asked me about it since I’ve posted some things on my Facebook page about them. I’m contracted through MadSkills to make graphics, write articles, and schedule social media for a sales writing software called ScriptDoll. To see some of my work check out their Friday blog posts. The opportunity came up in April. Knowing that I’d be transitioning twice in 2018, I was looking at something to replace my time and income from photography.
I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries for fall photos and weddings for next year. Unfortunately with my new job and getting our house ready for the market, I don’t have time to take new clients. There are so many wonderful photographers in the area that I’ve been able to pass on amazing referrals to these clients. For now I still have weddings to shoot, edit, and post, so you’ll see more work on my blog post before I leave.
At this time I’m unsure of what the future holds for my photography business. I plan to keep my web site up and then wait and see. A lot will depend on where we’ll be stationed after Fort Gordon and what’s going on with my family at the time. I’m ok with that for now. And I’m looking forward to some down time with the family in Georgia.
Thank you all for your love and support over the last seven years!!! It has been so appreciated!
